Lyndon Arthur Beats Anthony Yarde
to capture the WBO Inter-Continental Title
Split-decision victory sees Lyndon Arthur declared winner over fellow Briton Anthony Yarde in his bid to retain his Commonwealth light-heavyweight title in London.
His 18th professional win came courtesy of a 111-117 115-114 115-114 verdict at Westminster's Church House, continuing the unbeaten streak for the 29-year-old. Although Yarde, who also lost a world title fight to Sergey Kovalev in 2019, did manage to land a strong punch to the jaw in round 12, Arthur secured his second defence of his title.
Both boxers believed they deserved to be crowned winner and there were calls for a rematch from each of the fighters.
Following the fight Yarde commented “I strongly feel that was a robbery”, adding that he didn’t like to scream the word robbery but did think he had won the fight. Yarde disagreed, he felt that he was the rightful winner, but did compliment Yarde on his tactics.
Arthur commented that Yarde’s “defence was good and he was trying to counter me. He did counter me a couple of times but I felt like I landed with my right hand as well”.
